Now one thing had become increasingly obvious, especially with how she turned her attention to the other reporters in question. Country girl, just new to the big city, and she’d managed to become a reporter for Daily Planet? There had to be more to her than she let on and if anything it perked his interest about her even more. But at the moment he focused more on just what she said in response. Needless to say, the inner workings of her thoughts were completely unknown.

But if he had to be honest in regards to the others, he shook his head. He was certain she could handle herself though, that much was obvious with her height.

“Trust me. A lot of these guys will do whatever they can to get the big story. And that includes digging around desks or taking advantage of the new girl.”

Brow perking, it was almost a teasing statement before she asked easily enough. Of course he wasn’t offended, if anything it only showed how clever she was. That, or she was intending to pick whichever sat with her better.

“Smart too. Careful, you might’ve won me over already Callie.”

He didn’t get anywhere in reporting without being a little bold, her awkward nature a complete opposite which only amused him further. “So, where are you from?”

Making for the window desk first, the view had been enjoyable enough, the other desks positioned accordingly. It might have been something akin to office cubicles, his own different than the rest for obvious reasons.

“What do you think?”

“Oh, Ahm frum Smallville,” she said, setting the box down on the desk. The window was floor to ceiling, and she whistled, appreciatively. “Wow. Must get hot, though … “

It was perfect. Should anything happen, she could always slip out … Or could she. Callie would have to think more on this, especially if Lewis kept giving her that smile.

” … Ah had post-cards ‘n flags frum Metropolis since Ah was a lil’ girl. Ahv always wan’ed t’come here,” she said, looking out over the art-deco city-scape. ” … Does y’all office have a window?” She asked, lifting her box again. “Ahm warm blooded as it is. Ah’v th’ feelin’ Ahl cook if Aye get a window seat~”

“Oh, ah, hello~!” She said, adjusting her glasses and shifting the small box of personal items she had brought for her desk. The top button of her blouse got popped open … “Ma friends call me Callie, name’s Calliope, but, ah, yew can call me Callie if yew want t’!”

The accent, the way she carried herself, he was picking out numerous things about her already. She was tall, strong most likely too, and beautiful if he had to say the honest truth. A grin even played on his face, it had been impossible not to. “Uh—yeah, right.” Shaking back to his senses, a brief look at that button in question had his attention focus clearly back on her. “Then I better start calling you Callie then, huh?” Noticing her belongings, he waved her forward but extended a hand too. “I think we’ll get along great. And don’t worry about those other guys. They’re all bark if you ask me. If they spent half the time pranking and goofing off they might be where I’m at.” Award winning, he was one of the best to say the least. “Now, we’ve got two desks open. One’s by the window, the other’s well. In my office. But that’d be a little cramped. The choice is up to you though. We can get you settled in.” Needless to say, Penny had told him to show her around, get her settled in. At first he was slightly against it, but now he was rapidly warming up to the other.

Callie adjusted her glasses again and reached out to shake his hand. She almost dropped her box of belongings and managed to right them just in time. Callie, laughed, awkwardly, embarrassed. Really, Callie was putting on a show. Mostly because she wanted to put as much difference between Callie and Superwoman as possible. Hobo-kin farmgirl from Kansas versus the exotic alien super heroine. No one could say that they were the same~

“Right! Ah don’t think anybody but ma mother e’er called me Calliope more’n a few times, erm, Mr. Lane. The guys … ?”

She turned, looking through her glasses at a few men who were trying to seem as though they weren’t looking at a pencil-skirt wearing farmgirl figure.

“They seem friendly. Everybody seems nice here. Such a busy, big place … Oh, well, that’s real nice a yew,” she said, gushing slightly. “Erm, yew don’ mind if Ah see th’ two places, firs’? Ah don’ wanna annoy yew, in yer office … “

She had to weigh things now. If she went along with her fluttering heart and decided to share Lewis’ office, it’d be harder for her to get out of the building when trouble struck. However, if she sat by the window … would she see Lewis a lot any, if at all … ?
